Mysore-Style Practice – The Individual Path - HU/EN
Service Description
The language of the class (Hungarian or English) will be adjusted based on the participants. Mysore-style practice is the traditional method of learning Ashtanga Yoga, named after the city of Mysore in India, where Pattabhi Jois established his school. In this format, each practitioner moves through the series at their own pace, while the teacher offers individual assistance, adjustments, and introduces the next postures one-on-one. This method supports personal progress and deeper self-awareness, as students advance based on their own experience. During Mysore-style practice, students memorize the sequence, transforming the practice into a kind of moving meditation, where the synchronization of breath and movement deepens inner focus. During led classes, practitioners move in a unified rhythm, creating a sense of community and reinforcing the discipline of the practice. The structured format helps to deepen concentration and facilitates the experience of inner stillness. Ashtanga Yoga (aṣṭāṅga = eight limbs) has its roots in the Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali, where the eight steps of yoga are defined as follows: Yama (moral restraints), Niyama (personal observances), Āsana (postures), Prāṇāyāma (breath regulation), Pratyāhāra (withdrawal of the senses), Dhāraṇā (concentration), Dhyāna (meditation), and Samādhi (absorption). The modern system of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is based on the teachings of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, who developed the sequences following the guidance of his teacher, T. Krishnamacharya. The system consists of six series, the first of which, called Yoga Chikitsa (Yoga Therapy), serves to cleanse and strengthen the body. The goal of the practice is not only to increase physical strength and flexibility, but also to quiet the mind and find inner balance. Through regular practice, both the body and mind are gradually purified, paving the way for deeper spiritual experiences.
